I am Medical Technologist (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) and recently pursued a Master of Science in Data Science at Bellevue University. Working in healthcare for many years, I always imagined I would retire in my current field until I saw a billboard ad for data scientist. In the beginning, I thought it was like being a scientist. After researching, I thought this would be the perfect career that could assist me with my lifelong dreams.
As a kid, I had a big imagination and wanted to make a difference in the world. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, I experimented on ideas and created a logo in New Orleans for national laboratory week. Over 400 t shirts were sold on the first attempt. I thought it was fun and continued to pursue the fashion industry until a friend inspired me to pursue designing t-shirts with the rhinestones.
This eventually led to a meeting with a sales representative from Swarovski. After receiving an account with Swarovski , I created a more effective and efficient process for producing stunningt-shirts embezzled with rhinestones which led to a corporate account with Elizabeth Arden designing promotional t-shirts for Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, and Elizbeth Taylor’s fragrance lines produced by Elizabeth Arden.
In 2005, business was going so well, and I decided to open a storefront. The renovations to the store were completed. The inauguration for the store had been scheduled four days after Hurricane Katrina, but it never happened. Along with the destruction of the store, I was forced to relocate to Dallas, Texas, and work under her website www.therhinestoneartist.com.
After making Dallas my place of residence after Katrina, I was driving to work and noticed a kid walking to school while snowing with no coat. I called Sir Earl Toon who is my husband to go to the school to give the kid a coat. Unfortunately, we were unable to find the kid. So, we hosted a coat drive for the whole school and later received a lot of the support from the dance fitness community within the Dallas Fort Worth area to assist with raising coats for the kids. Today, we are called Give A Kid A Coat and provided over 5000 coats to kids in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
